Claw Talk

A reader has asked a question about finding cat nails on her carpet. She is worried that this not natural for her cat. She is wondering if she is going to start having to clip her cat's nails.

The answer:

You do not have to start clipping your cat's nails. The only reason you would have to do this is if they are getting too sharp.

Losing the outer nail is very normal for cats. A cat's nail is like an onion; each layer sheds just like the skin of an onion. It does this because the outer part is getting dull and so the outer claw must come off to make way for the new nail underneath.

Kitty's Advice

Spraying
Do you have spraying problems with your cat(s)? Then read this page to find out how you can help that.

If your cat(s) are spraying and you have another pet in the house, such as a cat or dog, the problem might just be the other cat or dog. To help this, try having the pets get to know each other or, you can get a special pheromone spray and spray it around the house. It calms your cat down.

But you can also try to get a pet trainer so the spraying will stop. If this advice helped you, then it just might help your cat too.
